It continues to mystify as to why Joe Paterno’s statue has not been returned to Beaver Stadium.
The NCAA restored the coach’s victory total, the full allotment of scholarships and decreed the team eligible for bowl game participation.
So, what’s the holdup? Is it money? Let Rodney Erickson chip in. After all, the trustees witlessly and unnecessarily gave him a $100,000 “departure bonus” and he was one of those who signed off on the removal of the statue in the first place.
The university continues to thumb its nose at the 177,000 worldwide members of its alumni association, loyal football fans and faithful donors. (Donations would increase by untold amounts the minute the Paterno statue was put back, a matter obviously too complicated for those in power to understand.)
