Clarence Mounties finish with 17-1 record

The Clarence Mounties completed their dominant run through the Centre County Baseball League regular season Tuesday night with a 6-1 win over the Howard Hawks.

Clarence went 17-1 this season to earn the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the league playoffs. Bryce Greene sparked the Mounties offensively in the third inning, driving in the team’s first run and scoring on a sacrifice fly to give Clarence a 2-0 lead.

The Mounties added four runs in the fifth on their way to the win.

Noah Chambers had two singles, Justin Taylor doubled and Bryan Greene tripled for Clarence. Brandon Barnyak pitched six innings to earn the win for the Mounties.

Dan Cole led Howard with two singles. Ryan Dyke added a double for the Hawks.

Spring Mills edges Pleasant Gap

Cody Young’s RBI double lifted Spring Mills to a 1-0 win over Pleasant Gap in nine innings Tuesday night.

In the top of the ninth, Spring Mills’ Tyler Myers reached on an infield single, advanced to second on a balk and scored on Young’s double. Young finished with two hits to pace Spring Mills.

After allowing the first two Pleasant Gap hitters to reach base in the bottom of the ninth, Myers recorded a strikeout and got a double play to seal the win.

Myers threw a complete game to earn the win.

Both teams finished with four hits.
