Field hockey
Nittany Lions field hockey falls in top-10 tilt
The Penn State field hockey team had not been shut out in six years — until Sunday.
The No. 3 Nittany Lions hosted No. 9 Michigan and suffered a 3-0 setback for their first Big Ten loss of the year.
It also was Penn State’s second overall loss on the teason.
The Wolverines recored two-first half goals eight minutes apart to lead the way. Meg Dowthwaite had the first Michigan goal in the 18th minute.
Nittany Lions goalkeeper Jenny Rizzo tallied seven saves.
Women’s soccer
Penn State, Nebraska end in tie
LINCOLN, Neb. Penn State and Nebraska were able to score in the first half but couldn’t find the back of net the rest of the game in a 1-1 tie.
The Nittany Lions took the only lead of the game in the 24th minute. Charlotte Williams recorded her second goal of the season from 18-yards out.
Frannie Crouse earned an assist on the play.
The Cornhuskers’ Haley Hanson tied the game up with 50 seconds remaining in the half for her fifth of the year.
The game was delayed for 2 hours, 32 minutes due to lightning.
Women’s golf
PSU finishes 2nd
UNIVERSITY PARK A rough final day of the Nittany Lion Invitational kept Penn State from claiming the team title.
The Nittany Lions shot 4-over as a team and finished second in their own event. Maryland won the team race after going even par.
Penn State had three finish in the top-10 of the individual portion of the invitational.
Cara Basso and Madelein Herr finished tied for second place. Basso and Herr were two-under for the entire tournament. They finished two shots behind Maryland’s Laura Van Respaille, who was the medalist.
The Nittany Lions’ Jackie Rogowicz was three-over in the final round and fell into a tie for eighth place at 218. Penn State’s Lauren Waller and Ashni Dhruva finished in a tie for 20th at eight-over.
Men’s tennis
Penn State earns 3 titles
PRINCETON, N.J. Constant De La Bassetiere and Christian Lakoseljac combined to capture three title for Penn State at the Princeton for the Ivy Plus Invitational.
De La Bassetiere and Lakoseljac each earned a singles title and then combined to win a doubles crown.
De La Bassetiere and Lakoseljac are ranked No. 18 in the country as a double team. They edged Harvard’s team of Kenny Tao and Lucas Koelle 8-7 in the finals.
Lakoseljac took care of Florida’s Jordan Belga in two straight set 7-5, 6-2 to win his singles’ draw. De La Bassetiere, who is ranked No. 118 in the country, beat Princeton’s Ryan Seggerman 6-4, 6-3 for the title.
Women’s tennis
Nittany Lions finish up UPenn Invite
PHILADELPHIA Penn State players wrapped up the final day of the UPenn Invitational by going 1-4.
Frederikke Svarre had the lone win for the Nittany Lions, who were competing their first tournament of the fall. Svarre topped Saint John’s University’s Jaide Collins 6-1, 3-6, 10-3. Svarre dropped her only other match 6-3, 6-7 (6), 11-9 to Richmond’s Gaby Rosales.
Hannah Wikberg, Liyin Xu and Hannah Kratky also competed for Penn State.
