Centre County Sports Hall of Fame unveils display board, plan for scholarships

The Centre County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame doesn’t have a house, but it does have a home now.

A display board with nameplates for each of the inductees in the first class now hangs in the Centre County Convention and Visitors Center across from Beaver Stadium. It is 72 inches wide and 48 inches high. Each inductee will have a nameplate on the board.

The first class of inductees was honored at a banquet on Oct. 15. Next year’s class will be inducted on Oct. 7. Voting by about 230 members is underway now and the results will be announced in January. Only members can nominate candidates.

The Hall of Fame has also announced that it will award a $300 scholarship to a graduating male and female athlete at each of Centre County’s five public schools as well as St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy. Winners will be determined by their athletic accomplishments, academic performance and citizenship and will be selected by their schools.

The Centre County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame is open to anyone. Memberships are available in both annual and lifetime categories. Applications are available from any member of the board of directors, going to the chapter website or by emailing chapter treasurer Lloyd Rhoades at
