Reporter/Times Herald Softball Roundup (April 23): Felicia Connolly throws perfect game in North Penn's win over Quakertown

North Penn 2, Quakertown 0 >> Felicia Connolly pitched a perfect game, the senior right-hander striking out 15 of the 21 batters she faced as host North Penn won Thursday's SOL non-division matchup.

A Villanova commit, Connolly threw a no-hitter in the Knights' 2-0 win over Souderton April 9. She began the week allowing just one hit in shutting out Methacton 9-0 Tuesday.

In 2023, North Penn's Julia Shearer pitched a perfect game in the District 1-6A final as the Knights beat Haverford 5-0. In 2024, Bella Nunn was perfect in a pair of run-rule victories – a five-inning win over Central Bucks East April 8 and a four-inning win over Pennridge April 30.

Connolly threw 59 of her 78 pitches for strikes and struck out the side in both the second and fourth innings.

Gabby Battavio was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs Thursday for the Knights (13-1, 5-0 SOL Colonial) while Cailin Halfpenny went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Battavio gave North Penn a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI double. Battavio's two-out RBI single in the third made it 2-0.

Quakertown (6-5, 4-1 SOL Liberty) lost its second straight.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 13, Central Bucks West 11 >> Lori Flannery, Lizzy LaNoce and Joslyn Perez all hit home runs as Plymouth Whitemarsh plated 10 runs after trailing 7-3 in the third to go up 13-8 then holding on in the bottom of the seventh to win an offensive slugfest over Central Bucks West.

Flannery's two-run homer in the top of the fourth to pull PW (9-4, 4-1 SOL Liberty) within 7-5. The Colonials took an 8-7 lead in the fifth on a Zoey Robinson RBI double and Gia Bono's two-RBI double but CB West's Hailey Worthington knotted things in the bottom of the frame on her RBI double.

LaNoce put PW back ahead 9-8 in the sixth with a solo homer. In the top of the seventh Perez's three-run blast and Maddie Swift single made it 13-8. The Bucks (6-7, 2-3 SOL Colonial) scored three times in their half of the seventh but could not complete the late comeback.

Robinson went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, Bono doubled twice in going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Swift went 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored twice for PW. Perez finished 2-for-3 with two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored Flannery was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored with Liv Brodzinski going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Worthington hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first as the Bucks scored five runs in the inning to erase an early 2-0 deficit. Makala Burkholder's two-run homer in the third had West up 7-3.

Worthington was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Burkholder went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Marley Swain was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored while Hailey Sigler went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Souderton 12, Perkiomen Valley 2 (5) >> Emma Lewis and Emma Messmer both hit two-run home runs as Souderton collected 13 hits and extended its winning streak to six with a five-inning non-league victory.

Messmer was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Lewis finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and scored twice.

Kiera Fadden went 2-for-3 with a walk and four RBIs for the Indians (11-2, 4-1 SOL Colonial) while Megan Borro was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Kathryn Jones went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Lewis connected on her two-run shot to make it 4-1 in the third. Messmer's two-run blast in the fifth put Big Red up 10-2.

Perk Valley (8-7, 6-3 PAC, 3-3 PAC Liberty), which had its six-game win streak snapped, grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Peyton Mears' RBI double. The Indians, however, tied the game in the bottom of the frame, took a 2-1 lead in the second then scored three runs in both the third and fourth. After PV got a run in the top of the fifth, Souderton ended the game with four in its half of the inning.

Pennridge 9, Abington 2 >> Taylor Toutkoushian hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, Lilly Davies connected on a solo homer in the second while Brooke Souder led off the sixth with a home run as Pennridge picked up its second straight win.

Toutkoushian was 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and a run scored with Souder going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Madison Heinrich doubled twice as she went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Jadyn Gulbinski was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.

The Rams (3-8, 0-5 SOL Colonial) put up the game's first eight runs – two in the first, four in the second then a run each in the fourth and fifth.

Zoe Kelly was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored for Abington (5-8, 1-4 SOL Liberty), which had a three-game win streak stopped. The Ghost posted both of their runs in the sixth.

Archbishop Wood 12, Little Flower 1 >> Archbishop Wood coach Jackie Ecker earned her 100th victory as the Vikings totaled 17 hits and rolled to a PCL road victory.

Ellie Walicki went 5-for-5 with a pair of triples, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored while Mae Kearney hit an inside-the-park home run in the top of the third to put Wood up 8-0 and finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Lilliana Walters was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Olivia Domico went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice, Allison Siegfried was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Zoey Whalen was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Jackie Cobb struck out 11 in a complete-game effort, allowing one earned run on six hits and three walks.
