Conestoga Valley is outright Section 2 champ, more Section 1 chaos: L-L League volleyball roundup for May 5 matches

May 5-On the penultimate night of the L-L League boys volleyball regular season, a second outright section champion (hello, Conestoga Valley) was crowned - plus more craziness, as the race for second place in Section 1 got a facelift when Ephrata beat Cedar Crest and Warwick KO'd Penn Manor. Both, impressively, on the road. It should be one heck of a finish on Thursday. Here's the roundup, with plenty of notables:

SECTION 2

Conestoga Valley 3, Lancaster Mennonite 0 - Hail, CV. The section championship trophy is heading to Witmer, after the Buckskins remained undefeated with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-14 victory over the host Blazers. CV dethroned Manheim Central, which won the previous three Section 2 titles. Charlie Krcmar (34 assists), Colson Erb (16 digs) and Andy Bonhomme (12 kills) keyed the Bucks, who never trailed. Dylan Nolt (13 digs, 4 kills) and Lukas Kehler (6 assists, 3 blocks) made Mennonite go. CV will go for a perfect regular season ride on Thursday when the Bucks welcome Cocalico. FYI: CV will take on the Section 1 runner-up in an L-L League semifinal on Monday at 5 p.m. at Hempfield.

Cocalico 3, Garden Spot 1 - The host Eagles remained alone in second place in the section race with a gut-check 22-25, 31-29, 25-12, 25-12 win, but they did not lock up an L-L League playoff slot. Anthony Cruz-Amaro (27 digs), Reilly Stark (24 assists) and Aubrey Witmer (13 kills) paced Cocalico, which finishes up league play on Thursday at outright section champ Conestoga Valley. If the Eagles hand the Bucks their first loss, Cocalico would garner second place. If the Eagles and Manheim Central - which plays Thursday at home vs. Lebanon - finish in a tie for second place, it would come down to District 3 power rating for the league playoff bid. At last check, Cocalico would hold that tiebreaker. Stay tuned. Aiden Mininger (25 assists) and Jacoby Martin (16 digs, 10 kills) sparked the Spartans, who made the Eagles earn it.

Manheim Central 3, McCaskey 0 - The host Barons remained alive for a share of second place in the section chase with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 triumph over the Red Tornado. Gavin Longenecker (38 assists), Will Myers (7 digs) and Daniel Becker (11 kills) showed the way for Manheim Central, which needs a win against Lebanon and for Cocalico to fall to Conestoga Valley for a share of second place. If that's the scenario, District 3 power rating would settle the seed for the league playoff slot. Ian Starliper (9 digs) and Yariel Rodriguez (8 kills) paced McCaskey.

Lebanon 3, Northern Lebanon 2 - In a 5-set nail-biter, the host Cedars outlasted the Vikings 25-11, 25-22, 22-25, 20-25, 15-7 as Hector Morrobel teed up 43 assists and Jaison Morales slammed 15 kills and tacked on 15 digs in the marathon victory. Justin Gonzalez-Luna (23 assists) and Peyton Ream (12 kills, 4 aces) sparked Northern Lebanon, which rallied out of a 0-2 hole to make Lebanon sweat it out.

SECTION 1

Pay attention. There's a lot going on here.

Hempfield 3, Elizabethtown 0 - The host Red Knights, who clinched the section title outright last Thursday, inched toward a perfect regular season run with a 25-17, 25-7, 25-19 victory over the Bears. Cam Bechtel (17 assists) and George Agadis (11 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces) helped Hempfield, which will go for a perfect 12-0 ride in section play on Thursday when it travels to Warwick. Aiden Kay and Matt Kerin had eight assists apiece and Finn McCoy rocketed eight kills for E-town. FYI: Hempfield will host the Section 2 runner-up in an L-L League semifinal on Monday at 7 p.m.

Ephrata 3, Cedar Crest 1 - More Section 1 madness, compliments of the Mountaineers. Brayden Fries set up 41 assists and had five blocks, Matthew Mantsevich mashed 17 kills and had five blocks, and Ephrata KO'd the host Falcons 26-28, 25-12, 25-23, 25-22 to make a mess of the race for second place behind Hempfield. Ephrata played its final league match, and finished up at 7-5 in section play; the Mounts also took an enormous step toward clinching a District 3 Class 3A playoff spot. Warwick (7-4) is percentage points ahead of the Mounts, and the Warriors have a tricky finale Thursday at undefeated Hempfield. Cedar Crest (6-5) and Penn Manor (6-5) are still in the mix; the Falcons are at E-town and the Comets host Manheim Township on Thursday. Wyeth Ritter (20 assists), Matthew Spragg (13 digs) and Drake Stiver (13 kills) led Cedar Crest on Tuesday.

Warwick 3, Penn Manor 0 - The Warriors needed a clutch road win to remain in the mix for the 2-spot in the section standings, and they delivered. Thomas Mejia (11 kills, 5 aces), Carter Walls (29 assists) and Landon Buckwalter (11 digs) spearheaded Warwick's 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 victory in Millersville. Rayn Andreychek (17 digs), Will Brady (9 kills, 4 blocks) and Landon Hess (24 assists) keyed the Comets. Hempfield at Warwick on Thursday. Circle it. If the Warriors spring one against the Knights, they'd scarf up second place and the league playoff invite. And there's a chance - hey, it could happen - that Warwick, Ephrata, Cedar Crest and Penn Manor all end up 7-5.

Manheim Township had the Section 1 bye on Tuesday.
