Mifflinburg leads four locals into softball playoffs

Unbeaten Mifflinburg leads five teams into the district softball playoffs.
The Wildcats (19-0) are the top seed in the deepest field with eight teams qualifying in District 4 Class 3A.
They are joined in the 3A field by Warrior Run, with only the other local team reaching the postseason, Midd-West in 4A.
Mifflinburg and Warrior Run play in quarterfinal games on Tuesday. The Wildcats host eighth-seeded Wellsboro (10-10) at 4:30 p.m. Warrior Run (11-9), seeded seventh, heads to Loyalsock at the same time to take on the second-seeded Lancers (15-5). Loyalsock has won both previous meetings this season.
The other Class 3A semifinals have No. 5 North Penn-Liberty going to No. 4 Hughesville and No. 6 Montoursville going to No. 3 Towanda, both on Tuesday.
The semifinals are Thursday at Elm Park, with the final set for May 27, back at Elm Park.
In 4A, Midd-West, seeded fourth at 12-7, takes on top-seeded Jersey Shore (14-5) at 5 p.m. at Elm Park on Friday night in one semifinal. Athens (15-4) and Central Columbia (16-4) meet in the other semifinal.
The 4A title game is May 27 at Elm Park.
In 5A, Shikellamy (4-15) will be part of the Districts 2/4 Subregional. The Braves will travel to Pittston at 4:30 p.m. for a quarterfinal.
Four teams qualified in District 4 Class A, with the semifinals set for Tuesday and the final on Thursday, all at Elm Park. In 2A, top-seeded Northwest has a bye until Thursday's final and will meet either Wyalysing or Williamson in the title game.
Greenwood is just one of two teams in the District 3 Class A playoffs. The Wildcats (6-13) are the top seed, and will face York Catholic (1-17) at 1 p.m. Thursday at Millersville University for the District 3 championship.
