Mexican Sports Reporter Fernando Vargas Gets Carjacked On Live TV
A Mexican sports journalist got carjacked at gunpoint during a live TV segment.
Fernando Vargas, a longtime sports journalist from Mexico, was doing a segment on Bla, bla, bla deportivo, a Mexican sports show hosted by Ed Martínez on sports platform Activo Deportes. Vargas, who serves as communications director of Mexico's National Professional Basketball League (LNBP), was doing the segment from the front seat of his car. Midway through an answer to a question from Martinez, Vargas was carjacked.
A man came to the front window and demanded Vargas give up his money and the vehicle.
The carjacker, meanwhile, didn't appear to know that he was on live TV.
"The key, quick. Key, phones, and wallets, quick," the robber demanded in Spanish, according to reports.
The interview feed was quickly cut out, though thankfully, it sounds like the longtime sports reporter is doing OK.
"Thankfully, he's safe, but very scared," Martínez wrote on Instagram. "If anyone recognizes the guy in the video, please help us and report him to the authorities. This happened in Morelos."
