News broke Thursday morning that Busch was hospitalized for a "severe illness" and would miss the weekend's events at the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. The hospitalization was later confirmed to have happened on Wednesday evening, around 5:30 p.m.

Just hours later, he had passed away. The Associated Press first reported that "Busch was testing in the Chevrolet racing simulator in Concord on Wednesday when he became unresponsive and was transported to a hospital in Charlotte."

A video posted by TMZSports on Friday showed audio of the 911 call. "I've got an individual that... shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he's going to pass out, and is producing a bit of blood."

The audio hears the details provided to the dispatcher on how to respond while keeping the police lights off upon arrival. Busch was confirmed on the audio as being awake.

The earlier Associated Press report suggests that Busch may have passed out after this call, but much remains unclear at the moment.

His cause of death remains unconfirmed publicly.

Busch Asked for Medical Attention During Watkins Glen Race

Two weeks ago at Watkins Glen, Busch requested medical attention at the conclusion of the race due to an excessive cough. It is unclear as of publishing whether those symptoms were directly related to his death 11 days later.

Despite enduring illness at Watkins Glen, Busch raced two races last weekend at Dover. In the Truck Series race, Busch won, marking his last victory in any NASCAR series. In the Cup Series All-Star race, Busch finished 17th.
