District 3 roundup: Twin Valley, Wyomissing will play for 2A girls lacrosse title; Brandywine advances in volleyball

It will be an all-Berks final in the District 3 Class 2A girls lacrosse tournament.

Top-seeded Twin Valley and defending champion Wyomissing, the third seed, punched their tickets to Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. title game at Millersville University with impressive semifinal wins on Thursday.

The Raiders (18-1) beat Red Land 19-6 and Wyomissing (19-1) ousted second-seeded Susquehannock 11-6.

Wyomissing beat Twin Valley 10-6 in last year's semifinals and then beat Hershey 16-2 for the district title.

On Thursday, BCIAA player of the year Ellie Kaplan scored seven goals, had four assists and won 16 draws for Twin Valley.

Maddi Lawrence scored five goals, had three assists and won two draws, and Meredith Siever had three goals and an assist. Twin Valley goalie Lynzee Anderson made two saves.

Manheim Township 17, Wilson 5, 3A semifinal: The Bulldogs (15-4) play Cumberland Valley Tuesday in the third place match. Both teams have qualified for the PIAA Tournament.

Boys lacrosse

Manheim Township 12, Wilson 9, 3A semifinal: Beckett Redner 4 goals, Harrison Moyer 2 goals, Sam Nevins 2 goals, Luke Azzanesi goal, 2 assists. Wilson (16-4) plays New Oxford for third place in Class 3A on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Wilson High School. Both teams have qualified for the PIAA Tournament.

Lower Dauphin 6, Twin Valley 4, 2A semifinal: Twin Valley (15-3) hosts Cocalico (14-5) for third place Tuesday at 7 p.m. Both teams have qualified for the PIAA Tournament.

Boys volleyball

Brandywine Heights 3, Schuylkill Valley 0, 2A quarterfinals: Set scores were 25-17, 25-16, 25-16. The third-seeded Bullets (17-1) play second-seeded Hershey on Tuesday at Hershey in the semifinals. The top three finishers in District 3 advance to the state tournament.

Manheim Central 3, Daniel Boone 0, 2A quarterfinals: Set scores were 28-26, 25-15, 25-22. For the Blazers, Cooper Robison 7 digs, 20 kills, 1 block; Luke Casner 3 digs, 9 kills; Sam Walker 35 assists, 6 digs, 1 kill, 1 ace; Jon Hunsinger 16 digs,1 assist.

Baseball

Garreth Calder went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored as second-seeded Trinity eliminated third-seeded Berks Catholic 12-6 in the District 3 Class 3A baseball semifinals on Thursday.

For the Saints (15-6), Cole Harter went 2 for 2 with an RBI and run scored.

Berks Catholic led 5-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but Trinity scored six runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-5 lead, then tacked on another run in the fifth and five more in the sixth. Trinity banged out 13 hits against three Berks Catholic pitchers.

Trinity (16-4) plays the winner of Friday's other semifinal which pits No. 4 Kutztown at top-seeded Bermudian Springs. That game was moved to Friday because of rain.

The 3A championship game is Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Penn Medicine Field in Lancaster.
