District 3 softball: Lizzie Tomaine leads Brandywine Heights to 14-9 win in championship game

Lizzie Tomaine went 3 for 5 with five RBIs as Brandywine Heights defeated Halifax 14-9 to win the District 3 Class 2A softball title on Thursday at Ephrata Middle School.

The second-seeded Bullets (11-7) advance to the PIAA Tournament and will play the District 11 champion in the first round on Monday, June 1.

Tomaine, who also scored twice, had a double and triple.

The Bullets trailed 5-1 after three innings, but took the lead with five runs in the fourth inning. They tacked on three more in the top of the sixth and put the game away with five runs in the top of the seventh.

Winning pitcher Kaitlyn Steventon went the distance, throwing 140 pitches, 89 for strikes. She struck out six, gave up 11 hits and six earned runs.

Kamryn Henry and Jenna Christ also had three hits for Brandywine, with Henry belting a double and a triple. Gennie Aul was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.

Top-seed Halifax ends the season 14-8.

Brandywine started the four-team tournament on Monday with a 13-2 win over Camp Hill.
