Local Roundup: Meadville win Class 5A baseballe title

ERIE - The Meadville baseball team won the Class 5A championship on Wednesday. The Bulldogs took down Warren 2-0 to claim the title.

Ian Miller started the scoring in the third inning, with a solo home run to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.

In the sixth, Konnor Mascitti scored off a single from Colin Reichel.

On the mound, AJ Feleppa pitched all seven innings. He allowed struck out five, while allowing five hits.

Meadville will continue its season Tuesday with a matchup against either the District 8, or District 9 champion.

Hailey Obenrader throws no-hitter to advance

SLIPPERY ROCK - Hailey Obenrader threw a no-hitter and Saegertown beat Sharpsville 4-1 in Wednesday's Class 2A semifinal.

Hailey Obenrader added 12 strikeouts to her no-hitter and scored two runs and a triple at the plate.

Tori Obenrader recorded a home run and drove in three. Myla Miller added the Panthers' other run and Leah McGill had a double.

Saegertown advances to the Class 2A finals to play Wilmington on Monday.

Orioles fall in semifinal

SLIPPERY ROCK - The Rocky Grove softball team fell 11-1 to West Middlesex in the Class 2A semifinal on Tuesday.

Payton Phillips recorded the teams only run. Abigail Mawhinney added a double and three hits.

Rocky Grove ended the year 7-13. It was the final game for seniors Zoe Cresswell and Nevaeh Fultz.

Cardinals shut out

SLIPPERY ROCK - The Cochranton softball team was shut out by Wilmington 3-0 in Wednesday's Class 2A semifinal.

Jaidin Frayer recorded 11 strikeouts in a full game pitched. Claire McCartney had two hits, Claudia Lippert and Alaina Shorts added one.

Cochranton ended the season 17-4. It was the final game for seniors Mara Schwartz, Madi Brenot, Addi Custead, Makenna Mase and Claire McCartney.
