Pennsylvania Trappers Association brings annual convention to Meadville
For the first time in the 89 year history of the Pennsylvania Trappers Association, the annual rendezvous will be hosted in Meadville.
The convention will be held at the Crawford County Fairgrounds from June 18-20. Members and non-members are welcome. The price of admission is $10 per day, or $20 for all three days, with everything being free once inside.
The District 1 director, Andrew Hyde, had a big role in helping Meadville earn the bid to host the massive convention. Hyde has connections with the area and the fairground and is building the event up to be one that expands into the community, rather than a solitary event.
"We want get people to not only come for a three day event, but also to come to for a week [in Meadville]," Hyde said.
The event itself will be massive. Over 160 tables for vendors will be in buildings and around the fairground, with a giant flea market to complement it all.
"If you're a flea marketer and you want to find oddities you don't get in other markets, you will find them here," Hyde said.
Outside of vendors, there will be loads of other attractions for new and veteran trappers alike.
June 18 will include an appearance from TV host and legendary bowhunter Tom Miranda. Miranda will also be there on June 19. Miranda will give demonstrations, mingle with the crowd and be apart on an auction on June 19.
June 19 will see the convention ramp up with fur handling and the kids cabin beginning. Both activities will run through the end of the convention. At the kids cabin there will be face painting, snap-a-trap game, coloring contest and a chance to meet Smokey the Bear.
June 20 will feature a mountain man race and the trappers general meeting.
In addition to everything there will be well known trappers from all over, who will be willing to share there knowledge with everyone.
"There will be no secrets," District 1 PR director Jim Murphy said.
"If anyone has thought about catching these animals, they have the chance to learn from the best and they are willing to tell you," Hyde said.
The convention will also feature trapping demos of all kinds of animals, even ones not native to Pennsylvania.
Doors open at 8 a.m., with buildings closing at 6 p.m. and events continuing into the night.
