Florida Basketball Has 'Special' Connection with 4-Star Guard

The Florida Gators are targeting some of the best players in the 2027 recruiting class. While Todd Golden and his staff have not yet landed any commitments, they are set on making some big splashes.

Shooting guard Oneal Delancy has caught Florida's attention. Out of Saint Petersburg, Florida, he is an in-state target for the Gators, meaning they have a unique advantage in this recruiting battle.

As a junior for the Montverde Academy Eagles, he appeared in 30 games, averaging 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He also shot 35% from the field and 31% from beyond the three-point line.

Florida has made a strong impression throughout the recruiting process. Delancy recently spoke to Rivals' Jamie Shaw and recapped what it's like being targeted by one of the top in-state programs available.

"It's special to be a Florida kid, recruited by Florida," Delancy said. "That means a lot. It's crazy there. Everything is top of the line. I mean, you go in there, and you're in The Swamp. You're surrounded by blue and orange the second you step into town. They got a great environment and atmosphere there."

He would be a major addition for the Gators. At 6-foot-3 and 170 pounds, he is a four-star recruit, the No. 12 shooting guard and the No. 47 player in the nation, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.

He's already taken two unofficial visits to Gainesville, the most he's taken with any program. Florida is leading in its recruitment, with the best chance (24.2%) to land his commitment, per the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.

However, the Gators are going up against several other enticing schools for Delancy. The guard also has offers from the Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Maryland Terrapins.
