Red Sox Announce Garrett Crochet Update Before Twins Game
The Boston Red Sox are in a tough spot in the American League East, with a 22-28 record for fourth place. The team has struggled to match promises made in the offseason to contend with the teams like the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. However, injuries have kept them from gaining ground in the division.
Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet is among the best pitchers in the game, but he has been sidelined since April 25 due to left shoulder inflammation, keeping him out of action for 23 games this season.
In his first season with the Red Sox in 2025, Crochet put up a top-tier performance, posting a 2.59 earned run average with 59 earned runs on 165 hits against 255 strikeouts over an AL-leading 205 1/3 innings. His 2026 season has been a different story, with a 6.30 ERA with 21 earned runs on 33 hits with 11 walks against 37 strikeouts in just six starts.
He has been slowly working his way back into the rotation, but has not progressed to the point where he us ready for action. However, a recent update on his status hints at a potential return to the mound in the near future.
According to manager Chad Tracy, Crochet is scheduled to face hitters on Tuesday, his first time since landing on the injured list.
Garrett Crochet is penciled in to face hitters on Tuesday, Chad Tracy said. It'll be his first time doing so since going on the IL.

It is a significant step for the Red Sox, who have been in desperate need of their ace as they attempt to claw back into postseason contention. The team's rotation has shown improvement since Crochet first landed on the injured list, but Boston will need its ace back to make a serious run at a playoff spot.
Tuesday's live batting practice session will go a long way in determining when Crochet is ready to return. With Boston sitting two games out of a wild card spot, the Red Sox cannot afford to wait much longer.
