Why Is Lamine Yamal Not Playing Tonight for Barcelona vs Valencia?

Barcelona face Valencia tonight in their final La Liga match of the 2025–26 season at Mestalla.

Even though Barcelona have already secured the league title, the game still matters in different ways.

It is the last competitive fixture of the campaign, and both teams want to finish on a strong note. Valencia, sitting mid-table, are looking to close their season with a result against the champions in front of their home crowd.

Carlos Corberán's men still have a mathematical chance to qualify for the Conference League.

To claim the European qualification spot, Valencia must beat Barcelona and also hope that Getafe fail to beat Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano fail to beat Alavés in their final matches.

Barcelona come into this match after a dominant league run, with their title already confirmed. Coach Hansi Flick is expected to rotate parts of the squad, balancing fitness ahead of the summer and the upcoming World Cup.

Why Is Lamine Yamal Not Playing Against Valencia?

Lamine Yamal is not in Barcelona's squad for the match against Valencia because of a hamstring injury.

He suffered a left hamstring tear on April 22, 2026, during Barcelona's 1–0 win over Celta Vigo, a game in which he scored before being forced off.

Medical scans later confirmed the injury as a muscle tear in the biceps femoris, which typically requires several weeks of recovery. Barcelona confirmed that he would miss the remainder of the 2025–26 season and continue a conservative recovery plan.

The teenager has been out of action since then, with the club prioritizing full recovery rather than rushing him back for late-season fixtures.

Despite missing club football, Yamal's situation is more positive regarding international duty. Spain and Barcelona medical staff have been coordinating his recovery, and current reports indicate he is expected to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June.

For now, his absence is purely injury-related and part of a longer recovery timeline, rather than a tactical decision or suspension.
