L-L League players deliver highlights in Pa.'s Big 33 loss to Maryland

May 25-Make that two wins in a row for Maryland in the Big 33 Classic.

It took a pair of overtimes, but Maryland outlasted Pennsylvania 18-10 on Sunday night at Cumberland Valley's Chapman Field in Mechanicsburg in the 69th edition of the longstanding all-star football game.

It was just the second time a Big 33 game went to double-OT, and the first time since Maryland survived Pennsylvania 31-24 in 2014.

Three players represented the Lancaster-Lebanon League on Sunday, and two of them were in on scoring plays for Pennsylvania.

Manheim Township quarterback Jack Kenneff put PA on the scorebook first when he zipped a 13-yard TD pass to Spring-Ford's Blake Turner, capping Pennsylvania's first drive of the game.

Hempfield kicker Brady Biscoe was already making a little history, when he became the first Black Knights' player to be named to the Big 33 roster since the inception of the game in 1957.

Biscoe added to that history in the first OT, when he boomed a 51-yard field goal, giving PA a 10-7 lead. Biscoe also hit the PAT after Kenneff's TD toss, giving Pennsylvania a 7-0 lead.

The 51-yarder was the longest in Biscoe's career. He also had a touchback on one of his kickoffs on Sunday.

Biscoe had a shot to give Pennsylvania a 10-7 lead at the half, but he misfired on a 31-yard field goal on the last play of the second quarter. He more than made up for it with his 51-yard make in OT.

Maryland's Gavin Fetty, from Severna Park, drilled a 24-yard field goal to tie the game at 10-10 and force a second OT. There, Arundel's Jonathan Coleman darted in for a 2-yard TD run, and Mervo's Kaden Foster tacked on a 2-point conversion run for an 18-10 lead.

Pennsylvania failed to score on its four-down possession from Maryland's 25 in the second OT, and Maryland won it - one year after its 42-21 victory, which snapped Pennsylvania's five-year winning streak in the series.

Pennsylvania still leads Maryland 15-6 in their series.

Maryland forced OT when Northern's Blake Pasik threw a 21-yard TD strike to Edgewood's Michael Robinson with 2:12 to go in regulation. Pasik completed 14 of 29 passes for 151 yards, and he rushed for a game-high 55 yards; Robinson was named Maryland's MVP for the game.

Kenneff clicked on 7 of 14 passes for 86 yards for Pennsylvania. His favorite target for Manheim Township, receiver Daryus Dixon, played in the game but did not catch any passes.

Annville-Cleona coach Matt Gingrich was an assistant for Pennsylvania. And before the game, Manheim Township coach Mark Evans was inducted into the PSFCA Hall of Fame.

Both defenses were on display; Maryland held Pennsylvania to 32 rushing yards on 24 carries - 1.3 yards per attempt - and Pennsylvania held Maryland to just 3.0 yards per rush, on 40 attempts.

Maryland also had four sacks, as Kenneff split the QB duties with Neshaminy's Michael Eckart. Pennsylvania was held to 122 total yards. Aliquippa defensive tackle Justus Starks was named Pennsylvania's MVP.

Both teams turned the ball over one time, and the teams combined for 15 penalties for 125 yards, as the game was played in a steady drizzle and mist. There was also a short stoppage when the lights went out at Chapman Field.
