Chiefs' Travis Kelce buys minority stake in MLB's Guardians

May 27 (UPI) -- Travis Kelce bought a minority stake in MLB's Cleveland Guardians, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end announced Wednesday on the New Heights podcast.

The Westlake, Ohio native played baseball, basketball and football at Cleveland Heights High School before attending the University of Cincinnati.

"This is some of the coolest stuff I've ever been a part of," Kelce said on the podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason.

Kelce spoke about "countless memories of the 90s and 2000s" while watching his hometown baseball team. He thanked Guardians owners Paul Dolan and David Blitzer for the opportunity to join their ownership group.

"This is a way I can always cement myself back into the east side of Cleveland," Kelce said. "It's a dream come true for a Cleveland kid. Any Cleveland kid would be through the roof right now."

Kelce was in Cleveland with fiance Taylor Swift for a Cleveland Cavaliers loss to the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals Saturday at Rocket Arena. He said he also plans to throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the Guardians host the Detroit Tigers on June 14 at Progressive Field.

The Guardians (32-25) lead the American League Central. They will host the Washington Nationals (29-27) at 1:10 p.m. EDT Wednesday in Cleveland.

Kelce, 36, signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the Chiefs this off-season. The 11-time Pro Bowl selection, four-time first-team All-Pro and three-time Super Bowl champion totaled 851 yards and five touchdowns on 76 catches over 17 starts last season for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs held their first session of organized team activities on Tuesday. They will old additional sessions Wednesday and Thursday and Monday to June 3. Chiefs mandatory minicamp will be held from June 9 to 11.
