Matt LaFleur Was Asked About Packers Star Josh Jacobs' Arrest
Green Bay Packers starting running back Josh Jacobs was arrested this week on five criminal charges and might have worn out his welcome in both Green Bay and the NFL depending on what comes to light. But how is his coach reacting to the situation?
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur reiterated that he would not be addressing the situation any more than the team did with their initial statement. The Packers released a statement announcing that they were aware of the matter and would not be commenting further.
"I'm gonna stick with the statement that we put out as an organization and just let the process play out," LaFleur said.
LaFleur was later asked if he intended to make plans for life without Jacobs if necessary, to which LaFleur said that he likes who the team has now but believes there's always room for more.
"I like the guys that we have, but, certainly, you can never have enough," LaFleur said.
The Charges
Jacobs was booked in Wisconsin this past weekend on charges of felony strangulation plus misdemeanor charges of battery/domestic abuse, criminal damage to property/domestic abuse, disorderly conduct/domestic abuse and intimidation of a victim.
Attorneys for Jacobs released a statement vehemently denying the allegations against him and asking for "fairness and restraint" while the legal process plays out.
"Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public. We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course," attorneys David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Clarence Duchac said, via ESPN.
But the NFL's burden of proof is significantly lower than that of the criminal justice system. The league hasn't officially opened up an investigation into violations of their personal conduct policy, but have reportedly been made aware of it and are in contact with the Packers.
Even if Jacobs manages to get cleared of all charges, the league might drop the hammer on him. It's entirely possible that Jacobs won't get onto the field until midway through the 2026 season.
In two seasons for the Packers, Jacobs has over 2,200 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on the ground. He made the Pro Bowl after the 2024 season - the third of his seven-year career.
