District 24 Little League: Lynn walks it off to power Pottsville past Schuylkill Haven's majors

POTTSVILLE - Knox Lynn shot a base hit into right field to cap a Pottsville five run rally in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-4 walk-off win at Rotary Park on Thursday night.

"As soon as we got the double in the sixth it got loud in the dugout and it got us powered up for the rest of the inning," Lynn said. "That helped with the momentum in the sixth inning."

Pottsville responded to early Schuylkill Haven runs with a five-run bottom of the sixth inning, including a Kellan O'Neill two-run double to left field to slice it to a one-run deficit.

"You've got to tip your hat to Schuylkill Haven and the message for the team in the last inning is it starts with a baserunner," Pottsville coach Mark Chiccini said. "We had to get that first guy on base and flip the script pretty fast."

Blake Harrison settled down Schuylkill Haven's bats in the fifth inning when he threw the final two frames and allowed just one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

"Blake locates the ball really well, he doesn't get flustered out there and he did a great job pitching in a tough spot and he got us out of a couple jams," Chiccini said.

Jack Chiccini led Pottsville with three hits and O'Neill had two hits and drove in two runs for the home team. Greyson Orndorff and O'Neill doubled to lead Pottsville in extra-base hits.

Schuylkill Haven struck in the top of the first inning beginning with a Jaxson Mihalsky walk. Myles Schultz then singled on a line drive to center field to score Mihalsky for the 1-0 lead.

Blaize Zaretskie tossed 5.2 strong innings for Schuylkill Haven, allowing just three runs to keep Pottsville at bay. Zaretskie retired nine of the next 12 batters he faced and struck out three.

Hayden Whalen struck out two Schuylkill Haven batters in the top of the second before the offense struck for another run in the top of the third.

"We waited until the bottom of the sixth inning and we answered when we had to," Chicinni said. "Our backs were against the wall and we came through."

Kayson Kupper grounded into an RBI fielders choice to shortstop to score Liam Pedigree for the 2-0 lead.

Wagner shot an RBI groundball out to second base to score Jonny Warke for the 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

Harrison came on to pitch in the top of the fifth for Pottsville and struck out the side in order before Schuylkill Haven's Zaretskie struck out two in the bottom of the fifth.

Wagner singled on a groundball to right field to score Korbin Tellup for the 4-0 lead.

Pottsville staged a five run rally in the bottom of the sixth, beginning with a Jace Spiess RBI groundball single to center field to score Orndorff for the 4-1 difference.

Two batters later, O'Neill came through with a two-run double to left field to score Max Stank and Spiess for the 4-3 deficit. Chiccini scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at 4-4.

Lynn stepped up to the plate and knocked an RBI groundball single into right field to score O'Neill for the 5-4 walk-off win.

"We want to win and get a banner and that's really it," Knox said. "We got good pitching later and that helped with the sixth inning."

Myles Schultz and Wagner led Schuylkill Haven with two hits apiece while Wagner drove in two runs. Jonny Warke doubled for Pottsville's only extra-base hit.
