HS BASEBALL: Eight WVC players named to all-state team
Eight players from the Wyoming Valley Conference were named to the Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team on Friday.
Players selected to the team were nominated by their coaches and voted on by the association's all-state committee. Forty players were selected per classification and broken down into first and second team.
In Class 2A, Wyoming Seminary's Leo Nockley was named a first-team infielder. Nockley, batted .408 with 37 runs scored, three home runs and 13 RBIs. He also had seven doubles and one triple. Holy Redeemer's Dominic Marranca was named a second-team infielder. He hit .491, had six doubles and scored 28 runs.
Dallas had two players selected to the Class 5A first team. Dominick Zangardi was picked as an infielder along with teammate Brady Youngblood as a catcher. Zangardi led the Mountaineers in hitting at .480, had 36 hits, scored 35 runs and drove in 23. He also had three home runs. Youngblood batted .409 with four home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 17 runs. He also had 11 doubles and one triple.
Also in Class 5A, Pittston Area shortstop Beau Widdick was named first-team as an infielder. He batted .440 with nine doubles, six triples and one home run. He drove in 26 runs and scored 34. Pittston Area catcher Jacoby Harnen was named to the second-team as a catcher. Harnen hit .434 with three homers, one triple, eight doubles and 31 RBIs.
In Class 6A, Valley West infielder D'Vonte Rivers was selected to the first team. Hazleton Area shortstop Logan Hearity was named to the second-team as an infielder. Rivers batted .407 with four homers and 22 RBIs. He scored 27 runs and had 28 hits. Hearity batted .471 for the Cougars with 23 RBIs out of the leadoff spot. He had seven doubles, four triples and one home run. He scored 38 runs.
