Colorado's Julian Lewis Made Alarming Comment About Deion Sanders' Coaching Staff

Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis made plenty of encouraging comments at Big 12 Media Days, but there was one questionable statement that has left fans quite stunned.

Lewis completed 55.3% of his pass attempts last season for 589 yards with four touchdowns. While his talent was on display at times, it was evident that he wasn't ready to be Colorado's starter. Well, his mindset heading into this fall has changed dramatically.

"I think my understanding of college football. College football is a crazy world now, with all the changes and all the moving around," Lewis said, via Glory Colorado. "Watching the transfer portal and watching the coaches change, you've got to adapt and just be ready for whatever comes your way…I think just my understanding of college football. I'm a lot more comfortable…I feel like when I got in last year, I wasn't very nervous or anything like that. I think God put me in this position for a reason, and every time I get the opportunity I want why I'm here, I do that."

Lewis also complimented new offensive coordinator Brennan Marion and the system he's installing at Colorado. That being said, he ripped the program's 2025 staff in the process.

"I'm actually looking at the defenses now," Lewis said. "Last year, we weren't really looking at the defenses much. We were just high school free-balling it."

Was this a jab at Deion Sanders?

Some fans are convinced Lewis' comments from Big 12 Media Days make Colorado coach Deion Sanders look bad.

"Coach Prime has no clue what he's doing," one fan commented.

"Deion not teach these kids A THING," another fan said.

There's no question the criticism from Lewis was directed towards former Colorado offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, whose unit ranked No. 112 in total offense last season.

Of course, Lewis could've kept some information to himself. We doubt Sanders wants the media to know that his offense barely studied opposing defenses last season.
