Jaylen Brown Announces Unfortunate Decision After Celtics Trade

Jaylen Brown's Boston Celtics tenure ended on July 1 after spending a decade in the city. Brown was first selected by Boston with the No. 3 overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard was immortalized in Celtics lore when he won a championship and Finals MVP in 2024.

For his Boston career, the Georgia native averaged exactly 20.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 31.0 minutes. The Wheeler High School graduate also averaged 1.9 three-point shots made per game on 35.8%. Although Brown is known for his on-court play, his social justice advocacy and work within Boston made him a valuable community member.

Just this summer, the 29-year-old was ranked by Boston Magazine as the eighth-most influential Bostonian. From leading the 7uice Foundation and launching the Boston XChange initiative, the five-time All-Star is deeply involved in the community. Another initiative Brown is involved in is the 741 Pop-Up & Meet & Greet. On Tuesday, the former UCLA Bruins star announced unfortunate news about the event.

According to 741 Performance on Instagram, Brown has postponed the July 9 Pop-Up & Meet & Greet. In the post, Brown reinforces that this is a postponement, not a cancellation, tells fans to stay tuned for updates, and promises to give the city a proper sendoff.

"For immediate release. We heard you. We listened. July 9 in Boston is postponed. Stay tuned for more details. We want to make sure we do this send-off the right way. 741."

Brown elaborated further in the caption.

"The love for this moment deserves more than we originally planned," Brown wrote on Instagram. "To make sure we give Boston the celebration it deserves, we're postponing the July 9 741 Pop-Up & Meet & Greet so we can create an even bigger experience for the community, the fans, and the city that has meant so much to Jaylen."

"We know many of you were planning to join us," Brown continued. "And we sincerely appreciate your excitement, patience, and understanding. Thank you for continuing to show up for Jaylen the way you always have. This isn't a cancellation; it's an opportunity to do this the right way. Stay tuned. We'll be back soon with a new date and an even bigger celebration. Boston, we're not done yet."

Boston will next face the Toronto Raptors in the 2026 Las Vegas Summer League on Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
