Mets Make Bo Bichette Career Announcement Amid MLB Season
Bo Bichette reached 1,000 career hits on Tuesday night, collecting the milestone single in the first inning against the Kansas City Royals at Citi Field.
The New York Mets shortstop reached the mark in his first year in New York after spending all seven of his previous big-league seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Mets lost 16-12 in a wild game, but not before Bichette delivered the hit in his first plate appearance of the night.
Bichette, 28, signed with the Mets this past offseason after the Blue Jays won the 2025 World Series. He blasted a three-run homer off Shohei Ohtani in Game 7 to help propel Toronto to the title before leaving as a free agent. He is the son of four-time MLB All-Star Dante Bichette and was drafted by Toronto in the second round in 2016.

He made his MLB debut on July 29, 2019 and twice led the American League in hits. A two-time All-Star, he owns a career .294 batting average with 111 home runs, 437 RBIs and 190 doubles entering Tuesday.
Through 85 games this season, Bichette is batting .251 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. He has been one of the Mets' more reliable offensive contributors on a team that has struggled for much of the first half.
The Mets are 38-54 and last in the National League East. New York hosts the Royals again Wednesday night at Citi Field with right-hander Christian Scott scheduled to start.
The 1,000th hit is a meaningful milestone for any hitter, and Bichette reached it at just 28 years old. With the Mets likely to be sellers before the trade deadline, his next destination could come before the end of the summer.
