Selinsgrove 8-10s win district baseball title

PENNS CREEK - Selinsgrove used a six-run third inning to break a 1-1 tie, and the 8-10 Division Little League All-Stars won the District 13 championship with a 7-1 victory over Lewisburg at Keene Community Park on Sunday afternoon.

Selinsgrove completed an undefeated run through the tournament at 5-0, and will advance to the Section 3 Tournament back in Penns Creek. They will open play with Roosevelt Trail Little League (Wyalusing) at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Lewisburg took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Nate Beddall and Thomas Egan each singled. After a fielder's choice erased Beddall at third, Lucas Haile singled to load the bases. Casey Woodruff walked to force in a run. Selinsgrove pitcher Fletcher Martin got a strikeout, and an out an home to escape the inning without more damage.

Ellis Somers led off the Selinsgrove second with a double. After Parker Neidig flew out to left field and Trace Garinger popped out, Easton Hepler doubled with two outs to tie the game at 1-1.

Selinsgrove broke the game open in the top of the third. After a line out, Nicholas Bordner and Jackson Doak walked. Blake Hoffman singled to load the bases. An infield error on a ball by Griffin Reinard allowed a run to score to give Selinsgrove a 2-1 lead.

Somers and Neidig followed with back-to-back RBI singles for a 4-1 lead. Garinger had an RBI fielder's choice.

Hepler and Oakley Keiser finished off the scoring with back-to-back RBI singles for a 7-1 lead.

Martin worked four innings for the victory, striking out four and walking three for Selinsgrove.
