State College graduate Storniolo named Northwestern’s head wrestling coach

State College graduate Matt Storniolo was named Northwestern’s interim coach on Monday night.

According to a release from the university, former head coach Drew Pariano is no longer with the Wildcats.

Storniolo has been an assistant coach for Northwestern since 2009. He works with the Wildcats’ middleweights and helped Jason Tsirtsis claim an NCAA Championship in 2014 and back-to-back Big Ten championships.

Storniolo is a 2002 graduate of State College. He captured a PIAA championship and finished the year undefeated at 145 pounds in his senior season.

Storniolo wrestled for Penn State in 2004, falling one place short of All-American status at the NCAA Championships, then transferred to Oklahoma. He captured Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors en route to an appearance in the Big Ten finals. While at Oklahoma, Storniolo captured a Big 12 title and became a two-time All-American.
