Juniata College to add 3 sports, build new stadium
Juniata College has received a sizable donation to build a new athletics complex, and also has announced the addition of three new sports.
Juniata will add women’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s golf, starting in the fall of 2017 to give the college 22 varsity intercollegiate sports. Men’s golf returns to varsity status after the school fielded a team from 1947-94. Juniata will field club programs in the sports to help prepare for the transition.
The Eagle athletic department is searching for a course to use for the golf programs, while lacrosse will play at the Winton Hill Athletic Complex, which will begin construction in the spring. That facility also will feature the Henry H. and Joanie R. Gibbel Stadium. Juniata announced a $500,000 gift from the Gibbels on Tuesday to fund an artificial turf soccer field and stadium, to be a part of the $3.5 million complex.
