Campus Corner: State College’s Bosak makes history

Former State College wrestler Scott Bosak made history for the Belmont Abbey program over the weekend.

Bosak, wrestling at 157 pounds, became the first wrestler from his school to win an NCAA Division II Super Regional Midwest championship.

Bosak defeated Joey White, of Findlay, 1-0 with a second-period escape to win the title. He advances to the Division II nationals at Sioux Falls, S.D., later this month.

Wrestling

J.B. Holden (State College, Penn State Mont Alto) was 2-2 and took fifth place at the NCWA Mid East Conference Championships over the weekend. He qualified for the National Championship tournament in Florida in two weeks.

Basketball

Dennis Fisher (BEA, Juniata) averages 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists for Juniata (16-10).

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) scored 25 points, including seven three-pointers, in an 87-77 season-ending loss to West Chester on Wednesday. Altomare had 87 three-pointers this season to set a school record. She now has 127 career three-point field goals. For the season, she averaged 14.2 points and 3.7 rebounds. Altomare also had 54 assists, three blocks and 47 steals. Kutztown finished with a 10-16 record.

Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) has a 7.3 scoring average to go with 1.6 rebounds per game. He has 10 steals and 34 assists for the Sea Wolves (23-6), who are the top seed in the America East Conference and will face UMBC in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday night.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) averages 1.2 points and 1.0 rebounds. She has 14 assists for St. Francis (13-15).

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) averages 12.3 points and 3.1 rebounds to go with 61 assists and 35 steals on the season. Truman (21-9) will meet University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference playoffs Friday.

Jaylyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Lock Haven) was named the PSAC Freshman of the Week last week after averaging 13.1 points and five rebounds over two games. It was the second time this year she has been given the honor. She finishes her season with a 4.2 scoring average and had 60 rebounds, six steals and six assists. Lock Haven closed with an 11-16 record.

Swimming

Marie Gingher (State College, Gettysburg) earned honorable mention honors on the All Centennial Conference team in the 100 breaststroke. She placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.59). Gettysburg placed second in the team race.

Alex Hillsley (State College, Delaware) took second in the 400 freestyle (2:59.71) and seventh in the 200 backstroke (1:48.94) in the Colonial Conference championships. He was also on the 200 freestyle relay team that placed third in 1:21.70.

Will Benner (State College, Gettysburg) was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.75) in the B finals in the Centennial Conference meet. He was also second in the B final in the 400 IM (4:17.14) and was on the winning 800 freestyle relay team in the B final (7:06.51).

Emily Pate (State College, Delaware) was seventh in the 200 IM (2:05.24) and fourth in the 200 IM (1:47.18) — a school record — at the Colonial Conference championships.

Indoor track

Nora Adams (State College, Bucknell) earned Patriot League All-Academic honors for the second time. She owns a 4.0 GPA while double majoring in linguistics and psychology. She was 11th in the 3000 (11:24.12) in the conference meet.

Kylie Orndorf (Penns Valley, Juniata) placed sixth in the shot put in the Landmark Conference meet with a 10.36 meter effort which is the fifth-best in Juniata history.

Alyssa Limbaugh (Penns Valley, Moravian) placed 11th in the 3000 (11:24.17) in the Landmark meet.

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) took third in the 5000 (15:44.43) and fourth in the 3000 (9:00.75) in the Landmark meet.

Eric Heatwole (State College, Bloomsburg) was on the fifth-place 4x800 relay team (8:01.18) and was eighth in the mile (4:26.66) in the PSAC meet.

Baseball

Jason Costa (State College, Walters State) is hitting .270 with 10 hits, a double, two homers, seven runs scored and six RBIs for Walters State (11-7).

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) has a .320 average with nine runs scored, eight hits, two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. He also has a pair of stolen bases for the Hokies (4-3).

Anthony Montresor (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is hitless in two trips.

Jared Dailey (State College, PSU-Altoona) has one save and an 18.90 ERA. In 3.1 innings he has given up nine hits and seven runs (all earned) while walking three and striking out two for Altoona (1-4).

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) is 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA. In 6.0 innings he has allowed eight hits and two runs (one earned), walked two, and struck out seven. Lock Haven is 2-2.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) is 1-2 with a 6.46 ERA. In 15.1 innings he has given up 17 hits and 11 runs (all earned), walked seven, and struck out 14.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) leads the team in hitting with a .343 average. He has nine runs scored, 12 hits, two homers and two RBI for Shippensburg (3-7).

Caleb Pepperday (P-O, Juniata) has pitched in one inning, while allowing two runs and three walks for Juniata (0-3).

Kyle Peterson (State College, Millersville) has allowed two hits and no runs, walked two, and struck out three in 4.0 innings of work for Millersville 10-1.

Softball

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, C. Conn. State) is hitting .067 with one hit in 15 at-bats. She has four walks and two RBIs. Central Connecticut is 1-6.

Vanessa Cooper (Bellefonte, UMass-Lowell) is hitting .083 with one hit in 12 at-bats. Lowell is 3-8.

Mackenzie Burge (P-O, St. Francis) is hitting .259 with two runs, seven hits, a double and three RBIs. St. Francis is 7-8.

Lacrosse

Olivia Stahl (State College, SCAD) had two goals and two assists in a 20-1 win over St. Andrews. The Bees are 3-0.

Volleyball

Aaron Cymbor (State College, George Mason) has two kills. George Mason is 5-10 after losing to Penn State 3-1 last weekend.
