Philipsburg drops Lemont in County League baseball
The Spike Island Pirates scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, then held off a comeback attempt to beat the Lemont Ducks 5-4 Thursday evening at Spring Creek Park.
With the game tied 2-2 entering the seventh, Derek Shaw clubbed a three-run double to put Philipsburg ahead. Lemont tried to rally with a Josh GLunt two-run double, but Glunt was stranded at second as the tying run.
Parker Watson and Matt Curtis each had a single and double to lead the Pirates, while Isaac Knepp struck out five for the win.
Matt Cavorsi was 2 for 3 while Calvin Sichler struck out 12 in the loss for Lemont.
