The Spike Island Pirates bult a 6-0 lead through three innings and cruised past the Clarence Coyotes 10-4 Tuesday night to wrap up their Centre County Baseball League playoff series.
The Pirates took the best-of-three series 2-0 and next play Sunday in the semifinals. The opponent will be determined after Thursday’s games, with the other two series knotted 1-1.
Matt McCamley belted a two-run home run to put Philipsburg ahead for good in the first. A two-run double from Parker Watson and a two-run single from Jessie Martin solidified the lead in the third.
Clarence left the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings, but finally cashed in when Ben Verbitskey cracked a bases-clearing double in the seventh, then scored on a Tyler Bennett double.
