The Howard Hawks are headed back to the Centre County Baseball League championship series.
The Hawks knocked off the defending champion Philipsburg Spike Island Pirates on Tuesday evening in Game 5 of their semifinal series 7-2.
Howard heads to the best-of-five finals against the Clarence Mounties starting Thursday in Clarence.
Brian Pekla earned the complete-game win, striking our seven while scattering six hits and two walks.
The Hawks rolled to the win thanks to a 15-hit offensive attack, with two hits each for Brandon Gettig, Scott Zuback, Dylan Womer, Dan Cole and George Conklin.
The Hawks jumped ahead for good with a three-run first inning. Gettig, Zuback and Tyler Womer all singled to lead the bases before a Dan Cole single brought in two runs and a Dylan Womer sacrifuce fly brought in another.
A Dylan Womer RBI single padded the lead in the third inning, and three more runs crossed in the fifth thanks to a Cole RBI double, a Clay Smith sacrifice fly and a Ryan Dyke RBI single.
Parker Watson, who took the loss, plated a run for Philipsburg with an RBI single in the first, and Aaron Mason tripled and scored on a Travis Arnold double in the seventh. Jesse Martin also tripled for the Pirates.
