Penn State senior swimmer Shane Ryan finished his stint in the 2016 Summer Olympics on Thursday.
Ryan swam for Ireland throughout, placing 40th overall in the 100-meter freestyle on Sunday and finishing 43rd overall in the 50-meter freestyle, which he swam on Thursday. He also finished 16th overall in the 100-meter backstroke, which was the highest men’s swimming finish in both Penn State and Ireland’s history.
He was also just the second Penn State male swimmer to ever compete in the Olympics, and will be the first to return to the university for his final season as a Nittany Lion.
