Campus Corner: State College’s Peterson helps Millersville to NCAA regional win
The Millersville baseball team is headed to the Division II College World Series and State College’s Kyle Peterson helped get the team there.
Millersville beat Mercyhurst 6-2 Sunday in the Atlantic Regional championship game, surviving the seven-team, double-elimination regional. On Friday, the Marauders advanced to the championship game also with a win over the Lakers 6-3. In that game, Peterson gave up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts in one inning of relief.
Peterson is 5-0 this season with a 3.42 ERA, striking out 20 while allowing 20 hits, 12 runs, 10 earned runs and 14 walks over 26 1/3 innings.
Millersville (50-5) advances to the the eight-team, double-elimination championship tournament that runs from Saturday to June 4 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The Marauders open Saturday against Angelo State.
Baseball
Trey Nicosia (State College, Wagner) won the Northeast Conference batting title for conference games, finishing with a .422 average. He finished fifth in the NEC in all games with a .349 average for the season.
Softball
Allie Baney (State College, Juniata) was one of six Juniata athletes named to the Landmark Conference’s All-Sportsmanship Team.
