Former player, coach Tara Hohenshelt joins Penn State women’s lacrosse coaching staff
Tara (Rowlyk) Hohenshelt, a former Penn State player, has been hired as a Nittany Lions’ assistant coach, the program announced Friday.
It will be her second stint as an assistant coach at Penn State — she was part of the Nittany Lions’ staff from 1999-2012. Hohenshelt played four years at Penn State, helped the Nittany Lions reach the 1995 NCAA semifinals and graduated in 1997.
She coached the girls’ lacrosse team at Western Albemarle High School in Virginia for the last four years. Hohenshelt fills the void left by the departure of Brooke Matthews, who will be the assistant athletic director and coach lacrosse at Bryn Mawr High School in Baltimore.
Hohenshelt’s husband, Dennis, was an assistant coach for a combined 16 seasons for the Nittany Lion men’s and women’s volleyball teams and spent the last five years as the head coach at Virgina.
