Lions shut out Wake Forest

UNIVERSITY PARK Penn State goalkeeper Jenny Rizzo stopped nine shots and six different Nittany Lions scored Sunday, as the team cruised past Wake Forest to a 6-0 victory.

Gini Bramley scored 17 minutes into the contest to put the first goal on the board. Turned out that’s all Penn State would need.

Penn State out-shot Wake Forest by a 21-13 margin. And, in the first half, the Lions allowed just a single shot to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Junior Moira Putsch paced all players with three assists.

The Nittany Lions (4-0) will next take on Princeton on the road at noon Sunday.

PSU ties after 2OT

LOS ANGELES After two scoreless overtimes, the Penn State men’s soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie Sunday against Loyola Marymount.

The Nittany Lions managed just five shots — two on goal — during the entire game. Loyola Marymount registered 29 shots —10 on goal — by comparison.

Penn State’s Aaron Molloy struck first, just 12:44 into the game, but Loyola Marymount put the game in a deadlock at 42:32.

Penn State goalie Evan Finney finished with nine saves in the tie.
