Cross country

PSU sweeps Big Ten honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. The Penn State men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the weekly conference honors on Wednesday.

Colin Abert and Jillian Hunsberger were both named the Big Ten cross country athletes of the week after guiding the Nittany Lions to team titles at the Lock Haven Dolan Duals. Abert finished the 6K first in 17 minutes, 31.53 seconds while Hunsberger finished her 4K in the top spot with a time of 13:53.87.

This is the men’s first such honor since Sept. 9, 2015, when Ean Disilvio won. The last female Penn State runner to win was Tessa Barrett on Sept. 14 of last year.

Pink Zone names new exec. director

UNIVERSITY PARK Penn State alum Susan Woodring has been named the executive director of The Pennsylvania Pink Zone, which works with the Lady Lions in the fight against breast cancer.

Woodring previously served as the Director of Development & Alumni Relations at Penn State Altoona. She graduated from Penn State in 1999 and earned her master’s in non-profit management from Regis University.

“Susan’s vision and direction are quite impressive and will certainly help Pink Zone continue its growth,” Lady Lions head coach Coquese Washington said in a written statement.
