Penn State cross country sweeps weekly conference awards — again

For the second straight week, Penn State has claimed both of the weekly Big Ten honors in cross country.

Colin Abert, a junior, was named the male cross country athlete of the week while Penn State’s Jillian Hunsberger shared the female honor with Michigan’s Gina Sereno.

The weekly honor, which was announced Tuesday, came as a result of Abert finishing first in the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational with a time of 17 minutes, 31.53 seconds. Hunsberger also finished first in the 6K race with a time of 21:07.

The season is just two weeks old, and both Abert and Hunsberger have won the award both weeks.

The Penn State women’s tennis team was scheduled to leave Thursday for a tournament in the Bahamas, but that trip has been canceled due to Hurricane Irma and the intended path of Hurricane Jose.

The tournament might still be rescheduled, but nothing is yet official.
