Washington named Big Ten Player of the Week

Penn State’s Haleigh Washington picked up her second Big Ten Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week honor of the year on Monday.

Washington led the Nittany Lions, who remained No. 3 in the AVCA poll Monday, to sweeps of Big Ten foes Illinois and Northwestern.

The senior middle blocker tallied 11 kills against the Fighing Illini, who entered the match as one of the nation’s top blocking teams. She also had four blocks and two aces. Against the Wildcats, she had 10 kills, three digs and five blocks.

Sullivan, Walls, Wasielewski join staff

UNIVERSITY PARK Head coach Coquese Washington announced the addition of three new members to her coaching staff.

Sean Sullivan, Caren Walls and Jeanine Wasielewski will step in to fill some key roles.

Sullivan is slated to be the Director of Scouting and Technology Operations, Walls will be the Athletic Trainer and Wasielewski takes on the role of Strategic Specialist.

Sullivan has six years of experience in women’s basketball and joins Lady Lions from Iowa. Walls is an alum of the university and returns after stints at Valdosta State, Georgia Southern and Butler.

Wasielewski has over 20 years of experience in the sport combined as a student-athlete and coach. She joins staff after being at Loyola University Chicago.

Conley honored by Big Ten

ROSEMONT, Ill. Cori Conley was named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week for her performances in Penn State’s wins over Michigan State and Kent State.

Conley played every minute of both contests for her first conference award. She had recorded her first career goal in the win over Kent State, and led the defense to its fifth shutout of the season to beat the Spartans.

PSU alumni help U.S. to title

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. With three Penn State alumni in the starting lineup, the U.S. men’s national team wrapped up the NORCECA Championship, and completed its season, with a sweep of the Dominican Republic on Sunday night.

Matt Anderson had seven kills on .778 hitting to go with four aces and two blocks to earn a match-high 13 points. Aaron Russell and Max Holt each added six kills on .750 hitting, with Russell picking up a Best Spiker award for the tournament. Russell also had two blocks, three digs and an ace.

The U.S. won the match 25-17, 25-10, 25-12 and finished the tournament with a 5-0 record for the championship for the North and Central America region.
