Women’s soccer

Trio named all-region

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Three members of the Penn State women’s soccer team learned Wednesday that they earned spots on the All-Midwest Region Team, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches.

Emily Ogle was named to the first team, while both Laura Freigang and Kaleigh Riehl were named to the second team.

Ogle finished the season with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Freigang led the team with nine goals and 19 points. And Riehl was part of a defense that recorded 13 shutouts in 24 matches.

Athletics

#GivingTuesday a success

UNIVERSITY PARK More than 800 gifts and $570,000 were contributed during Penn State’s #GivingTuesday initiative involving Penn State athletics, the university announced Wednesday.

Both totals were up significantly compared to last year’s 436 gifts and $250,000.

According to the university, about 50 Penn State coaches and staff volunteered Tuesday with Meals on Wheels, Housing Transitions and the State College Food Bank. More than 100 items were also donated to the Women’s Resource Center, Toys for Tots and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
