Women’s hockey
Syracuse edges PSU in OT
UNIVERSITY PARK Megan Quinn’s goal 3:06 into overtime lifted Syracuse to a 3-2 women’s hockey victory over Penn State at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday.
Meike Meilleur netted both goals for the Nittany Lions (6-10-8, 3-4-4 CHA) in the third period, with her score with 4:29 left forcing overtime. Hannah Ehresmann made 35 saves in the loss.
Jessica DiGirolamo and Emma Polaski had the other scores for the Orange.
Track & field
Perretta wins at Clemson
CLEMSON, S.C. Domenic Perretta was the lone Penn State winner in the first day of competition at the Clemson Invitational.
Perretta won the men’s mile in 4 minutes, 10.07 seconds, pacing four Nittany Lions in the top eight. Among them was State College graduate Owen Wing finishing sixth in 4:12.97.
Men’s volleyball
UCLA hands PSU 1st loss
LOS ANGELES No. 2 UCLA handed a four-set loss to No. 9 Penn State late Thursday night in the AVCA Showcase at Pauley Pavilion.
Aidan Albrecht posted a match-high 13 kills and three aces for the Nittany Lions in the 25-15, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22 loss. Cal Mende added eight kills and Luke Braswell gave out 32 assists in directing the offense to .186 hitting. Penn State was outblocked 11.5-4.
The Bruins (6-0) got 11 kills each from JT Hatch and Christian Hessenauer.
Penn State (2-1) faces Southern Cal on Saturday afternoon to complete the tournament.
