Women’s tennis
PSU tops Towson
The Penn State women’s tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Towson on Friday.
Frederikke Svarre, Bennett Dunn and Olivia Rohrbacher each won their singles matches for the Nittany Lions.
Dunn and Shannon Hanley won at No. 1 doubles, while the duo of Svarre and Rohrbacher picked up the win at No. 2 doubles.
Track and field
Penn State hosts National Open
UNIVERSITY PARK On the first day of the Penn State National Open, the Nittany Lions finished first in seven events Friday.
Maddie Holmberg won the pentathlon with a score of 4133. The Nittany Lions’ distance medley relay team of Isaiah Harris, Dan Chisena, Domenic Perretta and Colin Abert finished in first with a time of 9:36.48. Penn State volunteer assistant Eddie Lovett won the men’s 60-meter hurdles (7.79), Keianna Albury finished first in the women’s 60-meters, and Xavier Smith took first in the men’s 60-meters.
Penn State’s David Lucas recorded a school-record throw of 71-6.75 to take first in the weight throw, and Malik Moffett won the long jump (23-6.75).
Women’s hockey
Nittany Lions tie Robert Morris
PITTSBURGH Penn State played Robert Morris to a 2-2 tie on Friday.
Abby Welch and Natalie Heising each scored in the third period for the Nittany Lions to force overtime. Robert Morris’ Kirsten Welsh scored both goals for her team.
