Records fall at Penn State track and field season opener
The Penn State track and field team showed promise in its indoor season debut at the Penn State Relays on Saturday.
The Nittany Lions broke two school records, two meet records and won 17 events.
“It was an outstanding day overall,” head coach John Gondak said.
Lexi Masterson cleared 13 feet, 6 1/4 inches in the pole vault, beating the old record by 3/4 of an inch by Sarah Dougherty in 2004.
Xavier Smith finished the 60-meter dash in a record breaking 6.7 seconds. Eclipsing Ernie Terrell’s 6.76 record from 2003.
Penn State will host the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday.
