Penn State, Howard dominate in gymnastics season opener

The Penn State men’s gymnastics team dominated Army in the season opener with a 424.450-403.400 victory on Saturday at Rec Hall.

“Start to finish, you want to finish the meet and we did that fairly well,” coach Randy Jepson said. “We did have some breaks that were significant on a couple of events, but overall we got through. We got the season rolling and we are moving forward.”

Trevor Howard Leroy Clarke Jr. both had impressive nights for the No. 4 Nittany Lions. Howard won the rings, vault and all-around. He was second in the parellel bars and floor exercise. Clarke won the parallel bars and pommel horse.

Alexis Torres was the only other individual winner with a 15.200 score in the floor excersise.

The teams will meet again when Penn State (1-0) travels to West Point on Friday.
