Five newcomers join Penn State men’s soccer team

The Penn State men’s soccer team announced on Thursday five new players have enrolled this semester and will be part of the program for the 2016 spring season, including State College graduate Stephen Kenney and Brandon Hackenberg, brother of former Nittany Lions quarterback Christian Hackenberg.

The other three players are Pierre Reedy, Aymar Sigue and Cameron Steele.

In all, Penn State coach Bob Warming brought in three college transfers and two freshmen.

Kenney, a center back, played one season as a Little Lion, then focused on club soccer prior to attending Emory University. He helped the Eagles to a 9-6-2 record last year before deciding to return home.

“Stephen is a great student and contacted us after he had decided to transfer back to State College,” Warming said in a release. “It’s going to be fun to see his progress.”

Hackenberg is also a center back. He recently graduated from Fluvanna County High School, and played four seasons of club ball at Richmond United.

“Brandon has been to our camps multiple times and is a true blue Penn Stater,” Warming said.

Reedy is the other incoming freshman, graduating early from Kutztown Area High School. The midfielder helped Kutztown to a 19-2-2 record and District 3 title in 2014. He also played club for the New York Red Bulls Academy for one season and Lehigh Valley United for four seasons.

Sigue and Steele are transfers from Tulsa and North Carolina State, respectively.

Sigue spent two seasons with the Golden Hurricane, but also has significant international experience. Aside from playing club for the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency, Sigue has spent four years training with the Canadian national program.

Meanwhile, Steele was with the Wolfpack for two years, making 29 appearances and earning ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition twice.
