Syracuse edges Penn State in overtime
Jessica Sibley’s overtime goal lifted Syracuse to a 3-2 win over the Penn State women’s hockey team at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday.
Sibley scored the game-winner off assists by Megan Quinn and Nicole Renault. The Orange tied the game 2-2 on a goal by Morgan Blank with less than three minutes left in the third period.
Penn State took a 2-1 lead after goals by Laura Bowman and Kelsey Crow in the second period. Syracuse’s Melissa Piacentini scored the game’ first goal in the opening period.
Nittany Lions goalie Celine Whitlinger recorded 38 saves, while Syracuse’s Jenn Gilligan made 14 saves.
Penn State (9-15-5, 5-5-5) hosts Syracuse (13-13-3, 9-4-2) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
