Penn State men’s lacrosse opens season in style

The Penn State men’s lacrosse team opened its 2016 season in emphatic fashion Saturday afternoon.

Paced by a four-goal effort from TJ Sanders, the Nittany Lions thumped Robert Morris 20-7 at Holuba Hall.

Matt Florence added three goals, while two apiece came from freshman Grant Ament, Nick Aponte and Brian Prestreau.

“We’re thrilled,” said head coach Jeff Tambroni, whose team at one time in the third quarter led 17-2. “I thought our guys came out of the locker room and from the start of the game at the first whistle they played a very inspired game of lacrosse and gained a ton of momentum in the second and third quarter.”

Ament was one of six freshmen netting their first collegiate goals, joined by Matt Donnelly, Robby Black, Nick Spillane, Kevin Fox and Jimmy Nowoswiat.

James Chakey and Mike Sutton also scored and Will Schreiner, Trevor Scollins and Hunter Pearl all saw time in goal in the win.
