Nittany Lions split on opening day of Big Ten Match Play
Penn State opened competition at the Big Ten Match Play with a 3.5-2.5 loss to Indiana and a 5.5-0.5 win over Michigan at the Hammock Beach Resort on Friday.
Penn State’s Christian Elliott and Charles Huntzinger won both of their matchups Friday.
JD Dornes split with Indiana’s Andrew Havill before beating Michigan’s Nick Carlson, 5 and 4. Geoff Vartelas and Cole Miller each edged their Michigan opponents to contribute to the Nittany Lions’ victory.
Penn State is set to face Michigan State in the third round at 7:45 a.m. Saturday. The final round will start at 1:15 p.m.
