Women’s swimming and diving places seventh in Big Ten tourney
Penn State placed seventh in the four-day 2016 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, finishing off the tournament on Saturday on a high note.
The Nittany Lions set a school record in the meet’s final event, the 400 freestyle relay. The squad of Alyson Ackman, Niki Price, Haley Sinatro and Kaitlin Jones placed second overall with a time of 3:15.88. Penn State’s previous standard in the event was 3:16.12 in 2012.
That was one of three top-five finishes for the Nittany Lions. Ackman was fifth in the 100 free (48.67 seconds), and Melissa Rodriguez placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.43).
In total, Penn State accumulated 687.5 points on the weekend. Michigan won the title with 1,361 points, while Indiana was second with 1,207.5 points.
