Penn State opens competition at Big Ten Championships

Penn State sits in ninth place out of 10 teams with 84 points after the first day of the Big Ten Championships on Wednesday.

The Nittany Lions’ 800 freestyle relay team led the way with a fifth-place finish. The team of Matt Stasiunas, Ryan O’Neill, Joao Cervone and Bob Bantley recorded an NCAA B-cut time of 6:24.59.

Michigan is in first place with 128 points.

The championships start with preliminaries at 11 a.m. Thursday. Finals are set for 6:30 p.m.
