Baseball falls to No. 15 South Carolina

A three-run third inning for No. 15 South Carolina led the Gamecocks past Penn State 4-2 on Sunday at Founders Park.

James Coates homered for the Nittany Lions, and left-hander Justin Hagenmen tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing only two earned runs, but it wasn’t enough for Penn State (2-5) to prevail.

South Carolina (8-0) was led by designated hitter John Jones, who went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, driving in the go-ahead runs in the third.

The Nittany Lions embarks on their spring break trip on Friday, starting with a weekend series at UNC-Wilmington.
